Create a Day Spa at Home

February 7th, 2008 by Jennifer Larson

Natural skin care products are of more and more interest to people. Why? Because natural products are easier to get, less expensive and perceived to be better for our health. This type of skin care is so popular that many spas extol their virtues. But, let me tell you, most spas are insanely expensive. Not to mention the fact that we can all buy some of the best youth enhancing products right at our local grocery store. Why not grab a bag of natural ingredients and a handful of your girlfriends and create a day spa experience at your very own home.

One of my favorite things to do, when I treat myself to a homemade spa experience, is to buy some aroma candles. You don’t have to go to a specialty store, which charge an arm and a leg; more and more super markets are selling them now a day. Not only do aroma candles add a calming scent to the atmosphere, they also aid in everything from decreasing stress to helping control headaches. Set the mood by playing atmospheric music. It doesn’t have to be some new age mumbo jumbo, but it can be if that’s what floats your boat. You can put on a Van Halen cd, as long as it makes you happy and diverts your mind from all of life’s stresses. Homemade facials are always the centerpiece of my spa parties. They are cheap to make, easy to put together and edible to boot. Here are a few of my favorite recipes, to get you started.

Oily Skin Facial Mask
Ingredients
· 1 egg white
· 1 tsp lemon juice
Preparation
Mix the egg white and lemon juice and apply to skin. Leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse.

Dry Skin Facial Mask
Ingredients

· ½ avocado
· ¼ tsp honey
Preparation
Mash the avocado in a bowel, and then stir in the honey. Apply to skin and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse face with a cool washcloth

Anti-Wrinkle Facial Mask
Ingredients
· Two or three slices of banana
· 1 tsp milk
Preparation
Mash up the banana slices, diluting the consistency with the milk. Apply on face and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry
